Is this the end of our intrepid hero?

by Jonny Nero on Jul.01, 2010, under Site News

We hope not!!!!

Hey guys! So you may have noticed a bit of a change lately, in that we don’t update much.  Not like we ever really did anyway.  But no worries, we’ve still got you guys in our thoughts, and we have a few podcasts in the editing cue that will go up very shortly.

Also happening shortly, is something that I’m not willing to divulge, in order to protect the innocence of the site.  It’s something that’s going to take a little skill, and a little luck.  If we execute sucessfully, then you might experience just a little blip in connection with the site.  If we don’t, well, you’ll know we won’t and this will be our official farewell post.

We hope it doesn’t come to that, but in case it does.  Thanks for putting up with us for the last two years, it’s been fun! And in the words of Peter Venkman…

We came, we saw, we kicked it’s ass!!!

We are back…but won’t be for a bit

by Jonny Nero on Feb.19, 2010, under Site News

So as many of you have probably noticed, the site has been stagnant for a while. All that will be explained in the upcoming Epic Default Podcast which we are recording tonight. Essentially, we are going to be transferring power…and servers tonight. So the site may be down for a little. But when we’re back, things should start updating more regularly.

I know you’ve heard that before, but I will no longer be in control of the site anymore…so, like McDonald’s used to say, it could happen.

The Marathon is Here

by Jonny Nero on Oct.17, 2009, under Site News, Video

UPDATE!! Congrats to drobro! He won our Big Fucking Wrench contest!

Welcome to stream HQ for our participation in Extra Life! This is a 24 hour gaming marathon to benefit pediatric cancer research at the Texas Children’s Hospital, a world class facility that not only is a leader in pediatric cancer research, but strives to provide top notch service to families with sick children at little to no cost.

For the last few months, we have been asking, pleasing, and down right yelling at you to donate. Now is the time to do our half of the deal. But! This doesn’t mean that you still can’t donate. Go here to give your money to a great cause, then sit back, relax, and enjoy us screwing up our sleep schedules for the next 24 hours. It’s okay, because, well, it’s for the kids!

It all kicks off at 10 AM CDT. We have Leetbix joining us, and you can chat with us as we are all playing live on the site.

Make Snifit Dance!!

by Jonny Nero on Oct.16, 2009, under Site News

Our own Snifit has thrown down the gauntlet. With our team a measily $1 away from breaking the $1,000 mark for Extra Life, and him being $8 away from reaching his goal, he has come up with an offer.

The person to get him to reach his goal gets to choose a song. Snifit will dance to that song…LIVE…tomorrow on our stream.

But, he doesn’t stop there. If he can make it to $250, he will dance to not one, not two, BUT THREE SONGS…all your choice lucky person who put him over.

So do the math, we can get him to dance to FOUR songs tomorrow. So you know what you need to do. Click on his picture above to go to his individual page and get him to those goals.

EDIT: Ty1012 has pushed Snifit over his goal, and has chosen his song. Ladies and gentleman. Snifit will be dancing…to…THIS!!

Remember Snifit….it’s for the kids!

Epic News: PAX ’09 Edition

by Jonny Nero on Aug.23, 2009, under Site News

Wooo PAX!
Wooo PAX!

With PAX ’09 less than two weeks away, our preperations for the most awesome weekend of the year are in full swing. Which means…that the site might be a bit quieter than normal. But here are the reasons why

  • The second half of the CCST episode will be out before we leave, but we will probably not have anytime to record another show before that point.  So our next show will be our tradictional “Epic Cast” on Sunday night in Seattle.  This year, we want to meet everyone who reads the site at the recording, so stay tuned here and to our twitter feed (see the little thing on the right over there) for more info as we figure out exactly how we’re doing this.  Currently we know its going to be late (too many post PAX things to attend) and it’s probably going to be long (if last years show was any indication).  We’re not sure as of yet where we will be recording, or if we’re going to split between Random Access and Leetbix again.  But it will be fun, we will more than likely start celebrations of drunken Podcasting month, and will have the majority of the staff there.  So come out and say hi!
  • Speaking of Podcasting, I’m busting out my trusty iPhone voice recorder to do some interviews over the course of the week and a half we’re on this journey, so if you see me and want to be on a future episode of The Epic Default Podcast, come and talk to me.
  • PAX Prank is just about ready to go.  If you are not part of the group but would like to witness it at some point, stay tuned to our twitter feed.  On the Thursday prior to PAX, I will be releasing the Twitter feed we are using to the public via that route.

And finally, we have been talking about them for a good couple of months now.  AND THEY ARE FINALLY HERE!!!

Photobucket

Yes, that’s right…we now have shirts!

Photobucket

Wear them while you are sightseeing…

Photobucket

…or playing your favorite parlor game…

Photobucket

…or just generally creeping out random passerbys

Photobucket

We will have these at PAX. We have set the price point at $10 OR you can do something crazy (but not too horribly embarassing) at our discretion and for our amusement. As you can see we have two available currently. One of our flagship Podcast’s logo, so you can spread the gospel of your favorite podcast, and the other one to let everyone know that you have seen/been a part of one of the greatest geek pranks in history.  And of course you have the spiffy site logo on the back of the shirt.

Photobucket

These are a VERY limited run only for PAX(only 35 shirts for each design), but if we get enough of a response on them at the show we will make more and start selling them in our own little store that has yet to be built.

So there you have it! We are now merchandising whores!!! If you’re going to be at PAX, make sure to keep an eye out for us around the show, and say hi if you see us. We’ll be constatly updating the site and twitter with the cool stuff we are seeing/doing/playing so remember, if you want PAX viewed through the eyes of a geek and not some media outlet…this is the place to be.

Epic Default, Your Primary Source for Today’s Annoyances

by Jonny Nero on Apr.01, 2009, under Pranks, Site News

So the last few weeks for the staff here at EDP have been hectic, to say the least. So, unfortunately we are not going to be joining in on the over done and over hyped festivities of today.

So, what are we going to do instead? We are going to add to the hype! Check back here all day for the various April 1st pranks we find accross the internet! Subscribe to our Twitter Feed, to get continuous updates, so that you don’t miss a single thing…unless, of course, we miss it.

And! If you find anything today, leave us a comment or shoot an email to epicdefault@gmail.com with the link and we’ll check it out.

STAPLE! Here I Come!

by ClickPicTony on Mar.01, 2009, under Site News

StapleLogoSo next weekend (March 7th) I’m going to be heading to a little shindig in Austin, Texas, called STAPLE! The Independent Media Expo. Staple! is an event to promote independently created media. They’re going to have 85 exhibitors of comics, zines, art, animation, literature and a slew of great people to enjoy it with. Some of the special guests and events they’ll have include:

  • Jeffrey Brown, graphic novelist and creator of Clumsy;
  • The creator of Usagi Yojimbo, Stan Sakai;
  • Achewood creator Chris Onstad;
  • An independent publishing panel discussion; and
  • A performance by ColdTowne Theater.
  • It definitely seems like it will be tons of fun. So I hope you guys can make it out there. If you can, feel free to look me up to say hi, tell me how much you like the website, or simply punch me in the face. I’ll be the guy wearing the red kilt and grey fedora. It’s just my style.

Also look for a blog about the experience the following week. If you do say hi, you might end up in it. If you punch me in the face, you’ll definitely end up in it… just not in a good way.

Plan out your road-trip to STAPLE! and other nerd cons and expos across the country on our forums!

    PAX ’09 Get!

by Jonny Nero on Feb.22, 2009, under Rants, Site News

    Photobucket

So if Google, and our web site stats are to believed, we’re the number one source for PAX ’09 news. Yes, even when Penny Arcade is calculated into the equation. So to keep in that tradition, here’s an update on PAX ’09 after the jump.

    It takes a village

by Jonny Nero on Jan.02, 2009, under Site News

You may have been wondering where the hell I’ve been lately. Well, besides looking at the job market (Christmas Present from my job: A pink slip), I’ve been busy behind the scenes of the site, and of course spending time with the family.

I’m pleased to announced that we know have forums! They are live and they are working, so go ahead and head over there, join up and start talking.

Note: There has been a rare occurrence of encountering a database error when trying to access the forums. We’re not sure as of yet why that is, because it seems to be a random thing, so if you do, please let us know through email or comment here, and also if you have any idea as to how to fix that.

    Let our powers combine!

by Jonny Nero on Dec.15, 2008, under Site News

    Photobucket

So, first off, we’re still waiting on confirmation that we can use a song in the next part of Fanboys…that’s what’s keeping that delayed right now.

But another thing is keeping video delayed. See, we had plans for a massive video log of PAX 08, but our camera never made it through the whole experience. The sheer awesome that is PAX overloaded its circuits (read: broke the mic input).

So we have decided to ask you, our listenership, to help us out. We’re not asking you to buy us a new camera outright (but if you would like to, we need a mini DV with an external audio input), but tossing a couple of bucks our way would help lessen the load on our pocketbooks.

If you’d like to donate, the button over on the right is a paypal institution. And we thank you in advance for your generosity.
