Three Ways to Destroy ______

by Jake Prime on Nov.21, 2009, under Rants, Retro Reviews

Capcom is a rather prolific company with a storied history.  They have created some extremely popular game series, such as Megaman (Rockman) Resident Evil (Biohazard), and Street Fighter, as well as many popular single games or short-lived series, such as Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and Dead Rising. What can make a company as epic as Capcom fail?  Dive in and we shall find out.

A View on Things Past: Legacy of the Wizard

by Jake Prime on Nov.09, 2009, under Rants, Retro Reviews

After I reviewed Marble Madness, I decided to tackle a longer and more complex game than I had in previous reviews.  I believe I have accomplished that goal.

Legacy of the Wizard

I’ve got your legacy right here!

Extra Life!!

by Jonny Nero on Oct.06, 2009, under Rants

You should really donate, unless, you know, you like cancer

As most of you probably know (if you are subscribed to the podcasts that is *hint hint*) the return of Extra Life is upon us!! For those of you who knew about us around this time last year know the crazy awesome that is this event. Well this year, we want to do it bigger.

EDPHQ is setting up four tv’s and have two computers at the ready.
We’ll be running two streams so not only can you watch what is going on on the screens, you’ll be able to constantly keep an eye on
us to make sure we don’t crash like we all almost did last year. (Yes,
Anthony…we know you survived the full day, jerk.)

Not only that, but EDP West will be joining us in the form of Oz, Snifit, and Twinkie as well as EDP Canada with brand new member to the staff, Delerat. Like last year we will have the list of games posted so you guys can tell us what to play next should we need it, and this year, we will also show our compendium of gamertags, PSN ID’s, Friend Codes, and Steam ID’s for all to see!!

All of this will go down on Saturday, October 17th starting at 10 AM CDT. (Sarcastic Gamer suggests 8 AM in your local timezone, but we’re not morning people). But you can do your part to make this year’s event bigger before we even get it off the ground.

Clicking on the banner to the right on this page (it looks like the picture at the top of this article) will take you where you need to go to either donate to the cause, or join us in our fight against pediatric cancer. Clicking the donate button on that site (not the one here) will allow to give us any dollar amount you wish per hour of our ordeal. Clicking “Join Our Team” will take you to the sign up page where where you can become one of the crazies.

All this is for a great cause. Texas Children’s is not only a leader in cancer research, but it pledges to always treat any child at little to no cost no matter what, of any illness. That alone should open up your pocketbooks.

So please, help us out and we will see you on the 17th!

–Jonny

PAX Prank 2009

by ClickPicTony on Sep.15, 2009, under Rants

So after a cornucopia of random happenstance and pure craziness, we have survived the pure nerdy wonder that is known as PAX. It was a tremendous battle that truly tested our wits. But not only can we declare the experience a success, we can say that the prank we worked hard to set up this year was a success as well. Not only because we were able to perform the prank with great responses but, more importantly, because everyone had fun.

PAX: Log 1

by ClickPicTony on Sep.02, 2009, under Rants

It’s near the Texas / Oklahoma border, under a caffeine soaked stupor, that I begin to truly see the road for what it is; a bombardment of orange cones with misshapen and bloated twisted pieces of metal weaving and dodging to the elaborate plans of a human that truly can’t see the bigger picture. It’s within this massacre upon endlessly twisting pavement that I think of the present excursion. The goal: a temporal displacement that will eventually achieve sentience within the great northwest. But in reality that is nowhere near the goal. The reality is that the city has been infested with so many nerds that one can only be thankful that they are not in fact zombies, unless of course your wet dreams include the intricately played out scenes of mass murder of these undead whose souls have nowhere to go. But I’m getting ahead and behind myself here. The ultimate scene of nature in this annual right of passage is a convention of mass magnitude that truly does stretch the limits of nerddom. Just thinking of the sights, smells, and tastes to behold would make a lesser man weep in an overwhelming sense of joint joy and terror that can only be described as indescribable. But one can’t hold on to the thought for too long or else the immense emotions would distract from the task at hand, which is of the up most importance. It’s battle of will against a hydra of foes. Sleep deprivation, dehydration, driving exhaustion, boredom and the ever-present chance of a random encounter, law enforcement investigation and unplanned stop that has so many examples to prove the point that I cannot fathom why the chaos theory is still just a theory. So destructive and merciless are these elements that one must truly battle with all that they have in order to ensure that one’s mortal coil and financial stability stay intact. This is the prologue to a long venture that will truly test our limits. I can only hope we will maintain ourselves at least until we reach the northern lands. There we will receive support and if we can get that far, then we might just stand a chance. Pray for us. It is the only support we can receive at this point but it might just be the push we need. At this point though, I’ll just give God a smile and roll the dice.

I was catching up on my magazine reading the other day, when I came across an interesting article in WIRED. It was basically about rules that men should follow.

Yes, I still read magazines

The Looming Revolution, Prologue

by Jonny Nero on Aug.31, 2009, under Braindump, Music, Rants

Photobucket

I’ve been thinking a lot about this topic recently, which translates into “Settle in guys, here comes a long, semi-coherent rant.” The topic in question is Nerd Music’s place in the current spectrum of popular music, but more importantly, the chances of it, in some shape, becoming the next major cultural shift in mainstream music.

I can already hear some of you screaming at me through the monitors. Trust me, what you are screaming is not something I haven’t heard before when I bring this up. “It’s too niche,” or “Nerds are still outcasts, no one understands them enough to be mainstream,” are all valid points in a normal world, but also, all points brought up about the past musical shifts.

Here’s what the next few articles in this series are going to basically boil down to: I honestly think that with a little help, Nerd Music will be the next British invasion or Grunge-like movement. Take your pick. The fuel has been pooled in a nice little lake and all it needs is that errant spark to explode on the scene.

And I hope to god that I’m right because current music needs it.

(-Oh God! What is he on about now?!-)

Snifit Reviews: Prototype

by Snifit on Aug.14, 2009, under Rants

Well, it’s been awhile, but I’m back, and writing more reviews for the games you thought you loved. Today I’m reviewing Prototype. Unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to the hype.

See why after the jump.

I hope he doesn’t bash the game to pieces…
