The Kane of Games

by on Aug.09, 2009, under Rants

I heard a quote on NPR the other morning that got my brain working overtime.  Guillermo del Toro, director of many great movies, said “In the next 10 years, there will be an earthshaking Citizen Kane of games.”  Although I have not made a determination on whether his statement is correct, in either the sheer elegance or time-frame of said game, I did wonder, “What video game(s) out today would come close (or maybe even meet) the criteria of Citizen Kane?”

Our ever so lovely eye-shuh (pictured below, after an all-night bender) is now an offical Omeganaut.  We wish her luck, and want to know who is going to Toyko with her when she wins?

Please don’t hurt me eye-shuh, Jonny said he had a picture of you, but he lied.  You can blame him.

Friday Trivia – John Hughes

by on Aug.07, 2009, under Rants

An old tradition of mine was to send out a simple questionnaire on Friday mornings to my friends and have them send their responses back to me. I was fairly very subjective when it came to the answers provided to me by my cohorts in crime, as wrong but humerous answers would also garner points. Now, I cannot accept responses from everyone, nor will I grade them if e-mailed to me, but I will present to you this weeks trivia, with answers to come in due time (maybe this weekend, if you are nice).  If you want a real challenge, try not looking these up on the tubes.  It’ s more fun that way.  Feel free to answer in the forums or comments, if you so dare.  There are no prizes, as this is just for entertainment and bragging purposes.

This week’s topic: The (recently) late and great John Hughes
1. John Hughes frequently cast actors and actresses that he worked with in previous movies, in his newer movies.  Out of all the stars that he cast, which actor or actress did he cast the most?
2. What 1996 live action remake of a classic animated tale did Hughes write for and produce?
3. Written and produced by Hughes, what 1990 Christmas Movie is one of the highest grossing live-action comedy in US history?
4. Hughes used a pen name for his writing credits.  What famous Count’s name was used by Hughes?
5. What parody magazine turned production company did Hughes get his start in screenwriting?
6. How many of the Beethoven movies did Hughes write for?
7. What “moving” movie was considered a large directorial shift from Hughes’ previous high school movies?
8. What was the suggested title of the 3rd Jaws movie, concieved as a parody, penned in part by Hughes?
9. What fictional Illionis town does Hughes regularly use in his movies?
10. What Nixon and Ford speechwriter and lawyer famously appeared as an instructor in one of Hughes’ movies?  Anyone… Anyone?
11. What was the name for the group of actors and actresses that starred in his, and other high school themed movies of the time?
EC. How many movies did John Hughes direct?
